Replaces a decade+ BV1800US glass carafe heated base 8-cup which held up admirably until no amount of descaling could keep excess 'boiling' (by the sound of it) from causing the hopper to overflow (grounds all over counter). While a glass carafe model is currently also available, it is not the separate handle with steel strap ring of the prior unit, which accorded a bit of flexibility and play between it and the carafe itself. The new glass carafe design uses a an 'integral molded glass handle design' which indicates to me a clear safety danger in the event of any mishap. Therefore, the unheated base with metal carafe was chosen. The coffee-drinkers here are not the "down it quick and run out the door" type, so the coffee does not remain warm enough to enjoy as our last 1 1/2-hour timed heated base Bonavita did. Plus, the need or desire to constantly remove the water container to fill at the sink and re-install onto the brewer is neither necessary nor convenient. Simply fill the carafe full at the sink and dump it in the hopper already in place. The lid for the water holder is a flimsy loose fit at best, so that it can easily fall into the water compartment unless taking extra effort not to let it. The lid could have easily been designed using a separable hinge fashioned onto the compartment. Finally, I had imagined if possible I'd simply prefer now to just exchange this unit for the glass carafe heated base model as we had previously enjoyed so many years. I'd want to make several wraps of h. d. duct tape around the glass handle right at its connections to the carafe for safety. Not to mention it being an unyielding rigid stress point begging to snap off under any type of inadvertent pressure. Then of course, requiring replacement. So, a heated base glass carafe model would be the best of both worlds given the models currently made available. I love the BV1500TS coffee maker, but the carafe is a bad design. It is impossible to pour all the coffee out of the carafe. There is always some coffee left behind. Also, it is impossible to pour coffee out of the carafe without the lid being put on the carafe; another bad aspect of this product. The BV1500TS coffee maker has been on the market for many years, so why can't you update the design with a better carafe?
