It took quite a few emails back and forth with customer service but they eventually replaced the kettle under warranty. They were professional and followed through, and got the address wrong the first time, but corrected quickly when it was important.

The Bonavita Classic is alright, not perfect, but not a bad choice for $99. It does heat water to within a degree C or so of the set point, holds the temp accurately for an hour, will pour really quick if I want it to & seems easy enough to control. I don't like the handle but it's not terrible I guess. Plastic & it has a very noticeable seam I'm guessing where the molds came together, hopefully that isn't an intentional feature. It's not sharp but it's not really comfortable to grip either. The thing I really don't like is the plastic extends into the inside where the water is. It doesn't touch the water unless you overfill it, but it still shouldn't be in there & I don't like that. Took a while to wash the manufacturing smells out but after a little soap, lots of rinsing, and several liters of water boiled through it I'm not smelling anything. Did notice another annoying thing though, the top of the kettle has the metal folded in around where the lid sits which makes that feel & look nice but it also leaves a lip inside so it's impossible to just dump that last bit of water out. I guess I'm going to dry the inside anyway so it doesn't matter but why does every kettle/carafe seem to be designed to trap just a little bit of water/coffee? The display is bright, and the LEDs are brighter, would be nice to have a dimmer & to be able to turn off the beep sounds when pushing buttons.

The coffee maker is a great compact size, makes coffee comprable to a Bunn Coffee makers, smooth and flavorful. I have found the Bunn technique, and now the Bonavita's technique along with flat bottom filters creates a smooth low acid flavorful cup. The only compaint I have so far after a few uses is the the black buttons are illegible unless depressed (Then, they light up)otherwise you can't read the buttons unless you use a magnifying glass, you just have to memorize, Power, then brew, then bloom, then descale. Will definetly be a problem for some customers. So far , so good overall and the glass carafe is very retro attactive!

I had a larger Bonavita for 10-12 years, but an accident with the carafe led me to a new purchase. This 5-cup maker is perfect for me, and Bonavita makes the best thermal carafes I've encountered.

Easy to set up and use, brews coffee quickly. Coffee is hot and stays hot in the carafe for a reasonable period of time. Minor note: the design of the carafe makes it a little difficult to pour the last drops of coffee (or water when rinsing the carafe).
