I’ve only had this safe installed now for about a month so this is by no means a long term review. Overall, it’s a simple but very solid steel door and I like the made in USA on the side. My only complaint would be for a little more instruction for installing. There really wasn’t anything. However, if you are the least bit handy you’ll quickly see that you simply unbolt it, pull it in half and then suck it back together over your wall. So overall, seems good quality! I’ll be curious to see how it does long term but so far I’m liking it.

The HDV-500X safe I ordered arrived recently in great condition from the carrier. And it is indeed very stout, weighing in at 60 lbs. But to my Suprise as I was about to use the key to open it for the first time, I noticed the keypad buttons were not evenly set in the housing and was loose on one side. Then I checked the battery compartment, because the instructions said it would be charged enough to operate the keypad, and there was no battery or even a connecting wire for it. So, I decided to open up the access panel inside the drawer to see if I could repair it. Well, I found the battery with its wire connection (it popped out of its access door that it belonged in) and a screw and a bushing that had been rolling around. After removing the keypad housing I found out what the screw and bushing was for, I installed those, and the keypad was fixed. Then I placed the battery in its compartment and put everything back together. I did need to plug the charger into the keypad to get it working though, but it works fine. Next, the drawer was hanging up on one side when it opened. So, I oiled the latches and used some lithium grease on the drawer slides and that fixed that. I was finally able to get the bio finger pad to work after about 30 minutes of messing with it. So, the safe works great now, and it really is a well-made safe with exception of the issues previously stated. I know, I should have just sent it back. But I thought that would be an even bigger hassle, plus I'm a "fix it" kind of guy. Hope this helps someone.

From start to finish the customer service I received was 5 stars from the company. The shipping company they use I give negative 0 stars. They gave me a window from 8am-5pm which is kind of absurd. The safe didn’t show up until around 7pm. I wasted 11 hours waiting around when the shipping company could have gave me a heads up the day of delivery and gave me a 4 hour window stating my safe would be delivered later in the afternoon. In the 1960’s this would’ve been acceptable but in 2025 when the routes are pre-planned this is unacceptable. I would never do business with this company again unless they changed shipping carriers that are in touch with the times, it was a daunting process the day of delivery.

The service from Safe and Vault was excellent. They answered all of my questions up front before purchase. The delivery went smoothly and beyond expectations. The safe assembly was straight forward and required two people to carry the parts into the room where the safe was assembled and installed. The safe operates as it should and fits perfectly into the space. The only concern I have is that after tightening the bolts as far as they could go, there was still visible daylight that can be seen between the panels which is concerning regarding how well this would work to protect the contents of the safe if it was in a fire.
