Great shop ethos and incredible guitars but let down by the setup service! The first thing to say is the experience of visiting the shop is excellent. I love the ethos of the shop and the guitar brands they promote. After chatting to the guys online, I booked an appointment in the acoustic space - I don't live nearby but it was a good day out! Jake and Jon were very helpful via the online chat and during my visit - staying open longer whilst I made a decision! I had reserved a Dowina Mahogany GAC (Swiss Spruce top) which I did like but after trying multiple guitars (Dowina, Furch and Eastman) I instead opted for a Dowina Rosewood GAC (Cedar top) as Dowina guitars are already quite bright sounding. I gave them my setup preferences and asked them to fit the K&K Trinity Pro Mini pickup system that I had brought with me. When I collected my guitar a week or so later I was surprised to find the microphone of the pickup had been installed in a position I was unfamiliar with (contrary to the instruction manual I provided with the pickup system) but the luthier assured me it was the best position for it. After testing the pickup system further at home I noticed that the microphone picked up a lot of plectrum noise in the position it was installed in - not ideal! I also noticed that the bridge pickups were a lot quieter than the microphone, even with all the controls adjusted on the K&K preamp. After doing some research online, I asked Richards Guitars if they had installed the pickups with super glue gel (the highly recommended option in the instruction manual I provided - brighter tone and more volume) or with adhesive strips. They said they had used the adhesive strips! No wonder it was so quiet compared to the microphone! I very carefully removed the bridge pickups and re-installed them with super glue gel. The balance between the microphone and pickups was much better after doing this but it's not something I should have had to have done myself! Whilst doing this I not...

So, it started with a Richard video guiding me. It continued with seeking advice from the team over the phone. Which led to a 'test drive' in their home. They made me feel very welcome and guided me through its specifics before discreetly withdrew letting me lose on it. Outcome never in doubt, it sounds fantastic, the feel of it, the string spacing, the look. I took delivery a week after 'test drive' with a few minor tweeks, eg lighter strings and a strap button. It took a while to recive this as I believe it was built to order by Eastman but it was absolutely worth it. Communication from Richards Guitars was great and it was perfectly set-up. They even threw in a super high quality leather strap free of charge as compensation for the wait.
