I bought this knife from Maksim not really knowing what to expect. I had read a favorable review for it but without context I was still kind of skeptical. Regardless, I had bought some knives from Maksim and they were better than I had expected so I went for it. The knife arrived as sharp as any I had ever recieved ootb. The santoku has a great feel in hand. It is well balance and the spine is rounded and smooth. I wish the choil was smooth also. I did a detailed once over and was really impressed with the grind of the knofe. There aren't any overgrinds. If you are looking for a comparable knife, I'd say this knife is on par with a Carter HG. If you are looking for a knife where more value is placed on performance that esthetics, this is the knife.

There is a reason Nakayama is the most hyped and sought after mine. There are other stones, yes. But a true Nakayama is something special. I would not hesitate to recommend buying from Maksim! In fact, I recommend buying from him all the time :D

Great blade. OOTB lovely to use. As stated the finish isn't Shigefusa level but good. It is a sturdy blade wide but cuts amazingly. With 15mins finishing on my natural stones the edge is as sharp as any knife I have used. The knife wants to be used it lives up to the work horse name.

This knife is amazing, i have previously purchased a Shigefusa from Maksim, both times the service has been amazing and very quick. This knife is just beautiful flys through any food, amazing grind and heat treatment of this steel, i have also found that it is not very reactive, i am waiting for the 180mm Petty and the 240mm Wa-Gyuto to come into stock so i can purchase both

Everything what I can say is just I'm very happy that I could buy such an awesome knives at JNS. It's a pleasure to buy it from Maksim who is always ready to help. Thank you Maksim for your time :) I already bought a Zensho Santoku 180 and Zensho Yoshikane V2 Yanagiba 300. Both knives are amazing at work! And you know what? I am in the US and ordered this knife last week. It arrived amazingly fast. I have domestic orders that havne't arrived that fast. Also the customer service was top notch. Every inquiry I had was promptly and thuoroughly answered. With no feeling of them trying to up sell me. My one complaint is I wish they described the natural stones for novice better. On the other none of the natural stone sights do and when I I emailed a question I got a prompt and thouroug response. I was also told to email back with any fallow up questions. I have not yet had a chance but I'm sure when I do they will tell me all I need to know in a timely manner. Also I love how the have the email list to keep people informed on when new shigefusa are coming. All around great site. Great selection, great prices, impeccable customer service, fast shipping, and very informative. Also I believe they stand by there prices if you pre order and the manufacture raises them.

I would like to say thanks for the first class service, and the NOS Heljestrand Le Duc the razor delivers a great shave, this is my second purchase from JNS and can definitely say they are a company I would recommend. Jamie

I just wanted to share my experience. I ordered a JNAT and a set of 2 Asano Nagura (Tenjyou and Mejiro), but Maksim accidentally sent 2 Mejiro. He said that he would ship me a Tenjyou, but I bought one from him anyway. As a "thank-you" gift, he not only included the Tenjyou but a Tsushima Nagura as well!! I was VERY impressed by the generosity of Maksim for doing this! I will definitely be back to purchase another JNAT very soon!!

Ok, this is my second red aoto, purchased when my first had a fall. When I realized it had been ruined I felt a sense of loss. These stones are great, and had become my go to stone. Anyway the second one, the subjrct of my review is even better. It works up a fine mud, but is not soft. It has great feel and sound and raises a burr on my AS steel knife easily. It leaves a great toothy very sharp edge. I often just start and stop with this stone on my petty and gyuto. And it has a great earthy smell! Thank you maksim for providing these stones, which are truly unique.

I have spent a lot of money at JNS. Before that I have spent a lot of time finding the perfect vendor in the EU for japanese naturals and let me tell you this. There are only a few people as knowledgable as Maksim when it comes to japanese natural stones. I would (and probably will) buy from him again. All of his stones have been flawless and his recommendations spot on. There certainly is a reason why he is so popular among the craziest razor and knife sharpening guys. This is a big type 24 Ohira suita, an upgrade from my previous full size Ohira suita with Kan pattern. This stone is a bit more even, produce better and more uniform kasumi finish easier than my previous Ohira kan suita. A sure keeper, this is!

I made a couple purchases recently from Maksim and am very pleased with both the products and Maksim's service. He was very quick to respond to emails, helpful when I wanted to add additional items to an existing order, and the items shipped very quickly. The Yoshikane knives are quite nicely finished, and the JNS 1K and synthetic Aoto stones are very nice stones. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend JNS.

Very fast service, I ordered the iwasaki kamisori on a Wednesday evening and it arrived Friday morning (to Ireland) in very well protected packaging. The razor itself is fantastic, I've been shaving with straight razors for a while now and the Iwasaki is by far my favourite, the craftsmanship is second to none. Great service all round, will defiantly be back to pick up one a nice finishing stone soon (….when funds permit that is :P )

I just got to use the red-green aoto on one of my deba and I really, really like the feel on this thing! Actually, I sharpened up the knife and finished on a different medium-fine stone yesterday and didn't really like the edge. So I went back down a bit and then finished on the red-green aoto. Works fast, nice finish, good feel. Very happy with the stone :)

To date I have purchased two Japanese honing stones, a Wakasa and Asagi, Kanayama strop, extra strop parts and will purchase more items in the future. Shipping to Ohio, USA takes at most 4 days. Communication and service are from an earlier era...outstanding attention to detail. The stones and other products are perfectly described and priced fairly. In other words, why buy from another source when I get exactly what I want, delivered swiftly, impeccable service, and a fair price.
