For the past 12 years in my position as a teacher librarian working in multiple Title 1 schools, having First Book as a resource to purchase brand-new books from current and popular authors is an invaluable resource. Although I'm lucky to be at a school that provides a small budget for library books, there were many years I was working at schools with little to no budgets at all and since my students deserve updated collections, that meant purchasing them myself. Without First Book, I would not have been able to get as many new books into the library collection as I have over the years and I'm incredibly grateful. First Book is also my go-to for bulk purchases of books for our book club because I can purchase in bulk for the same discounted prices. This heartbreaking news keeps them from stories and characters that they could learn from and connect with and to me, nothing is more imperative than book ownership for our students. First Book's book bank allows me to stock up on books for our "little free library" so that students can grab a book and add it to their collection at home or even share it with a friend or family member as a gift.
