About a year ago I purchased the Stetson El Fino. It was my first Panama or Ecuadorian if you will. It very quickly became my favorite straw style hat. It’s lightweight yet strong and in the hot Texas sun it’s vented better than any other straw hat I’ve owned. So I was very excited about adding a Panama Open Road style to my collection. The Open Road Panama has slightly larger reeds weaved together than the El Fino but not by much. The hat came about a half size smaller than the other Open Road straw and felt hats except for the Milan version. However , with a careful stretch it fits perfectly. The lacquer/shellac finish makes it fairly rigid or stiff but it softens well with wear. In my opinion the two Panama western style hats have the softest lambskin roan sweatband of any Stetson. I have collected many hats so this says something. If you want a great summer straw version hat, the Panama Open Road is definitely worth the extra price.

Shipped swiftly and I was notified of its shipment in a timely fashion. Well packed. Price was right. Handsome lid. I deduct a star because my Open Road didn't ship with a hat box. The website description is mum on the subject of a hat box. Had I known not to expect one to store my Stetson, I wouldn't have been nominally disappointed when I opened the box. Overall, though, an excellent purchasing experience.
