I bought the Moment 58mm T-Series because I wanted something that would give the iPhone a more intentional camera feel, especially for still photography. So far I’m genuinely impressed. The lens gives a noticeably different look compared with the native iPhone camera: better subject separation, a more compressed perspective, and a less “phone-like” feel in the images. It makes me slow down a little, which is a good thing. The optical quality has been better than I expected. Used carefully, the photos have real character and enough sharpness to make the lens feel worthwhile rather than just a gimmick. I’m especially interested in using it for portraits, details, street scenes, and those situations where the normal iPhone lens feels too wide or too clinical. The obvious trade-off is size and weight. With this mounted, the phone is no longer really pocketable. It becomes a small camera setup rather than a phone you casually slip into a pocket. That’s not necessarily a problem, but it is worth knowing before buying. For me, I see it as part of a few different setups: iPhone with the Leica app for the simple pocketable option; iPhone plus Fjorden grip when I want better handling; and then iPhone, Fjorden grip and the Moment 58mm when I want to be more deliberate. I may also add filters later for an even more controlled still-photo setup. Overall, I’m very happy with it. It is not something I would leave on the phone all day, but when I choose to use it, it gives the iPhone a much more interesting photographic character. For the right person, that’s exactly the point.
