i ordered the Mukta Das #2 set of tabla. Smooth transaction and very fast shipping. They arrived all nice and sounding great! One small complaint that I have is, when ordering I specifically asked in the instruction box to include the exact sizes (measurements)which they did not provide. Other than that very happy with my purchase.

The Ali Akbar Store / Musician's Mall is an incredible resource for Indian Music. Steeped in the history of one of the greatest lineages of North Indian Classical Music they really know their stuff. There is no other resource like this in the United States.

The tabla was perfectly tuned to "D" just as my teacher asked me to get it. The sustain is awesome and the tabla seems to be really perfect.

I bought my harmonium (the MM2 portable) from these folks, and they were excellent. Robbie gave me great advice on tuning and instrument choice, and they gave me a great setup with the drones in the natural just as I wanted. It's good to work with people like this who will make sure you get an instrument that meets your needs and will take time to get things right. I'm sure to be a return customer.

I absolutely love this harmonium. I am a beginner and it suits my needs perfectly. I love that I can travel easily with it and the sound is beautiful. The customer service was top notch. When I first ordered the instrument I received a phone call to inform me about a slight imperfection. Harmoniums are handmade in India, so I expected some variance. I would have probably never noticed, but I appreciate the staff's honesty. I would definitely order from them again.

The sitar I ordered online ended up getting stuck in between ports when the Long Beach port went on strike, and was delayed about 3 months because of the strike. The guys at Musician's Mall felt so bad that they ended up giving me the next upgraded version of the sitar I ordered. I believe I ordered the Student Sitar 3, and they gave me the 2, for the price of the 3. They were very nice throughout the entire process and kept in good contact. Not to mention the sitar I received was EXCELLENT! For a student model, I am very impressed, the sound is warm and resonant, and it holds it's tuning very well while playing. The toomba that came with it had a slight crack down the back, but it still works perfectly fine, not to mention I rarely use it, so it didn't bother me. Overall, if you're like me, and can't afford to fly somewhere to buy a sitar in person, I would highly recommend going through Musician's Mall or the Ali Akbar College for your sitar purchase. They are trustworthy and have great quality instruments.

Found a harmonium locally that had problems, but was worth trying as a first instrument. It had a strong musty smell and a key that was broken, but still worked. Musician's Mall advised me both in an email and over the phone even though it didn't give them additional business. Such service was what I needed and I will also look favorably on future harmonium purchases from them. My only regret/complaint? is that items not in stock can seem to take forever. They are U.S. distributors, but the Indian suppliers may create a huge delay. Once again they give straight information about what to expect, but it's hard to wait. Right now I'm looking forward to getting a book that will give me basic information so I understand how the stops work.

Very happy with my interaction. Bought a sitar for my son and they got it all tuned up so it was "ready out of the box" when he got home a week later. Then when he went back to New York City I took it to them to send it to him. He said it was packed pretty bullet proof when it got there. I also got a pair of tablas and they got them also ready to play and gave me a quick intro lesson (since I knew nothing about them). Overall, very professional, knowledgeable and personable.
