Fuller's beers are peerless, and I drink no other; but I have to deduct one star for the performance of the delivery service. This has, lately, succeeded in delivering to me in person, without again leaving goods on my doorstep for illicit removal, or having breakages or losses at their depot; but they continue to send messages quoting delivery times, and then delivering outside those times, when I have remained at home many hours in the hope of delivery.

The shipping was absolutely fine, not the quickest to process the order but I got it safe when it came.

Fuller’s Imperial Stout 2025 – 10. 7% It’s so comforting to see Fuller still doing what they do best—creating beers that feel like they’re looking both to the past and the future, like they’ve somehow packed a time machine into the mash tun! Take their 2025 Imperial Stout, for example: it’s like sipping a beer that could have been enjoyed by a Victorian dock worker on a chilly evening, but it feels totally in the now. Pouring it, you get that inky, light-swallowing blackness that promises mischief. The head’s the colour of toasted hazelnuts, thick and slow to recede, like it’s in no hurry to go anywhere — and why should it be? The aroma rises like a plume from a coal stove: molasses, espresso, and a rich, sweet darkness that borders on the illicit. The first sip is a bit of theatre. It’s rich, viscous, and unapologetically boozy — 10. 7% and proud of it. There’s treacle, obviously — that gorgeous, smoky sweetness that wraps around the tongue like an old velvet curtain. The oats lend it that silky smoothness, while the invert sugar lightens the body just enough to keep it drinkable, rather than descending into syrup. And then — there it is — the rose petals. Not in a perfumed, Turkish delight way, but as a gentle floral lift right at the edges. It’s as if someone opened a window in a room full of old leather chairs and pipe smoke. It gives the beer an elegance, a kind of grace note to all that dark richness. As it warms, it becomes a slow conversation. Bitter chocolate turns to dark fruit — figs, prunes, maybe even a hint of black cherry. The alcohol hums softly beneath it all, more warming than aggressive, like the bassline of a good soul record. It’s a contemplative beer — one that asks for your attention and rewards it. Fuller’s has managed to channel something timeless here: a beer with the gravitas of history and the confidence of a brewer who knows exactly what they’re doing.
