I purchased a set of handkerchiefs as a gift and requested a giftbox. I found the poem on the bottom of the box appalling. I am a physician, have worked in Emergency Rooms, and often treated victims of domestic violence and attempted suicide in practice. I’m of Irish descent and keenly aware of Irish mordant wit. That wit excuses nothing, and doesn’t give the poem a pass as emblematic of a culture. The handerkerchiefs were a gift for my brother, a monk who works with the homeless and victims of domestic abuse. I stuck the hankies in a Ziploc bag and trashed the box they came in. I am a worldly person, not sensitive, have spent years working abroad in many cultures, and I tell you, your “marketing” would be simply unacceptable anywhere.

Well I wrote Vala Alta a week ago for a refund but got no answer. So I don’t know if they will honor their satisfaction guaranty. I also found the handkerchiefs have a very corse and scratchy weave, unlike any other linen handkerchiefs I own. The color is also not white. Perhaps Alpine White means ecru, I don’t know. But I find thy look dirty, they are overtly scratchy, and are unusable. Washing and ironing does not help.

You have a first rate product. I am old enough to remember when men and women carried handkerchiefs everywhere. They were decorative and functional. Well, you’ve reintroduced the use of handkerchiefs as a stable in western culture. You are also helping to prevent the use of paper towels for everything. This fights climate warming.
