This Decca Pure Analogue pressing of Willi Boskovsky’s New Year’s Day Concert in Vienna is everything this series promises and more. From the first bars, the presentation is open, natural, and beautifully balanced, with a sense of air and hall ambience that immediately places you in the Musikverein. The Vienna Philharmonic sounds lush yet precise, with strings that have real body and texture, and brass that is festive without ever becoming brash. The waltzes swing effortlessly, the polkas sparkle, and Boskovsky’s trademark warmth and elegance come through with ease. What really stands out is the dimensionality: excellent depth, stable imaging, and a wonderfully lifelike sense of scale. Pressing quality on my copy is excellent, flat, quiet vinyl with no distractions, allowing the music and the analog mastering to shine. This is one of those records that reminds you why all-analog classical reissues matter. It’s immersive, emotionally engaging, and endlessly replayable, whether you’re spinning it on New Year’s Day or any time you want to bring a little Viennese joy into the room. A superb release and a standout entry in the Decca Pure Analogue series. Highly recommended.
