It began a couple of years ago when my wife and I were vacationing down south. We're from Michigan, so we go where it's warm when it's cold up here. At one thrift shop, I saw an oversized coffee mug with the words ST. LOUIS on the handle and a painting of The Gateway Arch with the city in the background. At $4. 99 I had to buy. Then I started searching other retail outlets and learned that truck stops are a wonderful place to guy Americaware mugs so we added FLORIDA and PORTLAND to our stash (my wife's cousin lives there) and eventually added DETROIT once we returned home. Well, no A. D. D. person can settle for a set of five, so, in honor of our many trips south, I went on-line and purchased FLORIDA, TENNESSEE and KENTUCKY as those are three of the states we pass through. (INDIANA was missing when I wrote this as my wife took it with her to work. ) Someday soon I will have to add ILLINOIS to make 10, but I'm still debating which will be my final two to make an even dozen. At $12 each on-line these mugs are cheaper than the store prices, which vary, and I can push the "big" button on my Keurig when we have guests. PLUS, they all ask about them. I was at another thrift shop the other day and saw an Americaware mug with a Cocker Spaniel, but we don't have a dog, so . . . . . . . . . . But maybe, some day . . . . . . . .
