After purchasing local custom butcher block countertops that highlighted dark walnut I was given a referral from a customer friend to use your products. I mistakenly ordered a gallon of the Half and Half thankfully then ordered another gallon of the Dark Half, and a small bottle of the pure Dark for the end grains. The total running feet with extra shelves totaled 20 feet by 25 inches and being new I covered both the top and bottom. What an amazing change thank you! Since the countertops sat in my garage in 55-100 degree temperatures for a month to dry out the absorbing of the tongue oil was amazing and why I was glad to have the second gallon. I started my process on the bottoms working with the Dark Half using a rag to apply it. Didn't take long and two soaked applications to realize that I was not going to have enough Dark to both the top and bottom so I switched to the regular Half and Half. The total applications on the bottom were 5, giving roughly 35 minutes between coats in the 89 degree heat. Then flipped over and 5 coats of the Dark Half on the tops and the pure Dark on the end grains. After flipping/rubdown on the bottoms I did the same for the tops. They sat like this for 24 hours, absolutely no pooling, fully absorbed on both. In 86 degree heat at 46% humidity I started the process again with the bottoms then the tops: fully soak and let absorb, rub in after 35 minutes, repeat. The bottoms started pooling on the second coat, the tops on the 4th. This totaled 7 soakings on the bottom and 9 on the tops, rubbed dry after 35 minutes. The next few days with that heat started some of the excess oil bleeding back out which I used to do a full rubbing with until my rags were nearly dry and the smoothness evident to the touch. This process of rubbing/drying was repeated multiple times daily for the next three days. Awesome product. Love it's safe, smells great, and made our deck look beautiful. We'll see how it holds up after a year or two. I'm planning a third coat in a couple weeks, because two wasn't enough.
