It all started when Team Liquid announced the race to world first for Abberus, the Shadowed Crucible. I was so hyped, and the jersey designs looked out of this world - I wanted to buy one! I was able to find my size and put in my order, when I got a message from customer service: what’s your mythic+ rating? I was confused at first. Why did I need a mythic plus rating? Was the Team Liquid staff trying to make sure only good players could order jerseys? Isn’t that gatekeeping? Fine, whatever. I’ve played wow for a while and consider myself to be decent at the game. “2600,” I replied. A few moments pass, I could see three dots at the bottom of the screen. They were thinking of what to say. “Prove it.” HUH?? This is starting to get a little excessive, but I really want that jersey. Badly. So I send over my Battle.net tag and get invited to a group. I’m met with a prot paladin and a holy priest - these must be the employees that were available. I inspect them: big mistake. The paladin’s gear looks fine, and has a super high rating: I bet this guy is a manager or director of some sort, since TL seems to care so much about gaming skill. But this holy priest looks like they draw on the wall with crayons in their spare time. I’m talkin picking their nose and leaving their finger in cause they forgot what they were doing. Probably a new hire. This might not go well. We queue up in the group finder, and I notice the key level. 20? Doable. We fill the group and head to the dungeon. Surprisingly, it went off without a hitch. The paladin was dipping in and out of mob packs, knowing when to kite and when to crowd control. But the priest far surpassed my expectations. They must have stopped sniffing their own feet before the dungeon started, because despite the gigantic pulls the paladin’s hp never dipped below half. I’ll admit I even made a mistake or two but the healer kept me alive. At the end of the key we exchange farewells. I get an notification, and look to see a messag...
