Others have already covered most of the plus points of these reels, although it's worth repeating just how well made they are. These things will last a lifetime with no chance of a bent or deformed flange damaging your tapes, they'll break before they bend! One thing I don't think has been mentioned is the size of the cutouts in the flanges. Not only are they larger but reversed, so the widest part is by the hub not the rim, which makes threading the tape easier. It also makes it easier to see how much tape is left on the reel in fast-forward or rewind. But, aren't they very expensive you say.Yes, they are, but so is magnetic tape these days, especially the pre-recorded kind and anything that helps preserve those valuable tapes, as these reels will, is worth having

Bought another Arena Red reel for my Otari R2R and I couldn't be happier. Looks great as a pair and makes loading a tails out reel super easy because both reels are perfectly balanced and solid as a rock. Flat flanges and sturdy boards make them easy to thread and whisper quiet even and especially during rewind/FF. Please check my previous review about the presentation when you open the box, it's an experience in quality second to none. Thanks again guys!

The quality is outstanding even for a B Stock! Imperfections are really unnoticeable. Can't wait for a 7" version. Definitely eye catching as well as balanced and runs much truer than any metal reels I own.

Holy S---! It would never occur to me that receiving and opening a take-up reel could be an "experience" you'd not soon forget, but this was! The packaging is top notch, easy to open and presents the reel extremely well. As for the reel itself, WOW! Every aspect rates a 10+++. My only regret is not purchasing a pair at the discount initially offered. More please....

Couldn’t be happier with these reels. The quality and performance sets a new standard and the looks couldn’t be better. Had to buy four of the birdseye to always have them loaded and ready to go.

I picked up some of these for a project and am very impressed with the fit and finish. Fit of the hub is very precise. These have no noticeable runout while Fast Forwarding or Reversing. I find the tape runs and stores right in the middle. Balance seems perfect as my deck runs very smooth at high speeds. A real improvement over the original reels. With three openings they are very easy to get tape threaded and running. They arrive in a very nice storage box. A real quality product and they look fantastic!

I just received this gorgeous reel in Arena Red two days ago and was I impressed with it right out of the box! You really feel like you are holding something of genuine quality with it in your hands. Mount it on your deck and rewind a tails-out tape to it and you are going to be floored. The box and packaging alone is stellar. Comes with a certificate with your Serial # and a groovy "RX Reels" sticker as well. I shared a review and pics on my FB page just yesterday afternoon and one of my buddies Jeff M. has already informed me that he has ordered two of the RX Reels in the Rosewood finish for his Technics Deck. Let's start at the top. My reel came superbly packaged, and was protected extremely well for it’s journey to the UK. When you unbox the outer carton to reveal the reel's storage box, you already begin to see the quality. Heavy cardboard with custom foam insert to keep the reel nice and secure. It looks like it will last the lifetime of the music on your tape. Open the box and there it is, the best finish of any tape reel I have ever seen. I mean this thing is machine flat, and just oozes quality. You can see and feel that this product has been engineered by people who want to make the best. Stunning! So how does it fare with some tape on it! I hooked mine up to my Studer A810 and hit rewind. The micro machined surface on the NAB hub is superb, and helps with loading the tape. There’s no slipping and having to roll back and forth to get the tape to bite and not once have I failed to load the tape on my first try. Ingenious design! With other empty reels you can get slippage on high speed rewinding, and the tape moves front to back on the hub, which can damage the tape ultimately. With the RX though, there was none of that. Tapes load so much more quietly as well, again, a result of the flanges being dead flat and not wobbling around on a sub standard hub. Now I wasn’t expecting to see it, but the loaded RX reel tape was packed onto the flange flat, and I mean it was pancake fresh out of the box new tape flat!!!! Amazing, absolutely amazing. This in turn also means that when you’ve finished listening to the tape, although being loaded back on to a regular aluminium reel, this too is super flat. So the best possible condition for storing the tape!! This has all happened time and time again, whenever I listen to tape via my RX reel. I even think that I have heard a gain in output volume, now this might sound silly, but I seriously do. From the first listen I noticed it. Going back to other reels proves it.
