I custom ordered a cap bearing a reproduction of a portrait I believe to be of Lydia Hamilton Smith, the bright, beautiful, mixed-race partner of Pennsylvania's firebrand abolitionist Congressman Thaddeus Stevens. The two came together in 1844 and walked together fighting for the cause of racial justice and equality until Stevens died in 1868. I wrote a book about them-An Uncommon Woman: The Life of Lydia Hamilton Smith. Having this portrait of Mrs. Smith (widowed) on my cap is a way of sharing the life and work of this wonderful American couple with everyone I meet. The quality of the cap and the picture now emblazoned on it exceeds my expectations. If my book becomes a best seller, I'll buy everyone one of these high-quality caps. Thanks to RushOrder Tees for giving me this avenue to express my admiration for these two champions of racial equality from the nineteenth century.
