A lovely pork pie that takes me back to the time when I queued outside Walkers shop in Leicester at Christmas time to get my pork pie to have on Christmas morning.

My daughter, aunt and I were in Melton Mowbray and wanted an activity to complement the day. Fortunately, the monthly workshop to make Pork Pies was on that day so we booked in. It was an extremely educational affair and we learned about the history of the pork pie, how many are eaten today in England (a lot more than I was expecting!) their different products and, finally, we tried making them ourselves. It was a little trickier than I had been expecting, however, I was pleased with the result and certainly enjoyed eating it. I thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Melton Mowbray and particularly to those who are interested in both the history and practicalities of this popular pie,

I have, for nearly 60 yrs, had walkers pork pie, Started when my father worked as a supervisor at walkers pork butchers, when they started to make crisps, they then moved to Cobden St, and, he was works engineer, when Beaumont leys was set up, it became tradition to have a piece of walkers pork pie for breakfast Christmas morning, and, I still carry on that tradition, why wouldn't I, walkers have always made the best pork pies, they're not just for Christmas, they are perfect all year round, thank you walkers for making the very best pork pies, Geoff Campion
