Without a doubt, one of the best rods I've used. coupled with the Envy reel, it's a match made in Heaven. It's my new "go-to" rod; it justs works. Anywhere.

In October 2023 I unfortunately had to replace my Sage Payload 9w 4 piece rod. I primarily fly fish for Pike and cast 5 inch topwater flies, or 7 to 10 inch weighted double articulated flies. I came across Montana Casting Company and became very interested in their rods and in particular that they offered 2 piece rods along with 4 piece rods. I personally find that a 2 piece rod cast so much nicer than a 4 piece rod. But its nice that they produce either for your personal preference. Seems that the big box manufacturers have moved to only making 4 piece rods for the most part. After a very informative and great 11/2 hour conversation with Scott, I ordered my new Warm Springs 9w 2 piece rod along with an Envy 406 with 2 extra spools. My order arrived in just 2 days, even after the extra time that it took for Cat to notice that I had ordered a reel that's weight class did not match my rod "Great attention to detail". I immediately noticed that when casting my new Warm Springs rod that the balance of backbone and tip action gave me the ability to cast further while using less of my own physical strength. The engineering and the materials used in the Warm Springs rod, by far out perform any rod that I have ever cast before. And my shoulder can tell the difference at the end of the day too. I love the Envy 406 reel as well. I really like that all of the working parts are sealed and protected from moisture and dirt. The drag is very smooth and easy to adjust with accuracy. Also, I really like that the spools thread on. I have had other reels that the spools slip on to a shaft and at times have been hard to get to slide back off. Not the situation with the Envy 406. Scott, Cat and the crew are great people to do business with, but even better to call friends with a shared passion for fly fishing and the outdoors. It was late in the year when I got my rod so I am looking forward to spring and getting back on the open water and hopefully I will be able to put my Warm Springs...

Buy one. This reel is a compliment to my Montana Casting Co. Craig Fly Rod. The Envy 406 reel in 7 weight, presents well with its rich finish and engraved badges. It sends a light lines on the river with ease and is a work horse when still-water fishing with heavy sinking lines. Drag and reel functions are effortless. Switching spools, also effortless. Customer service top notch. Love this reel.
