Bad Customer Service!
I ordered an OEM timing set for a Ford from Bob Howard PDC which is owned by Group 1 Auto Parts due to their competitive pricing. The RH phaser installed fine, but the LH phaser spring broke during installation. I called customer service and spoke with a representative who was helpful and told me I didn’t need to return the full kit — just the damaged part — and that I could return it using the packaging from a replacement, even if purchased elsewhere. I followed her instructions, completed the warranty and RMA paperwork, and shipped the part back. A few days later, I received an email stating my return was rejected because I didn’t use the original packaging and had submitted the incorrect form. I called and spoke with the same person who sent the email. He denied that any employee would have told me that. However, he admitted he could see the transcript of my call — where I asked twice if new packaging was acceptable and was told yes. He also acknowledged seeing a follow-up email confirming that. As a Ford Master Technician, I understand things break — but this was not installer error. It was a case of poor communication and customer service. This company is not affiliated with Ford. After this experience, I checked their BBB rating: “D,” and their sister company holds an “F. ” I told the rep I accept that I lost $230, but I hoped they’d use this as a training opportunity. Unfortunately, his dismissive tone made it clear that likely won’t happen. Disappointing experience. Do better.
