When my wife and I began looking for a crib for our grandchildren more than four years ago, we approached the purchase a little differently than simply choosing the one we thought looked nicest. Our priorities from the beginning were safety, exceptional build quality, carefully chosen materials, and durability. We wanted to create a sleeping environment for our grandchildren using products we felt genuinely comfortable having around them every night. That research ultimately led us to the Green Cradle Clover Green Panel Crib in Cherry with the natural linseed-oil finish. One of the things that impressed us most was its construction. As Green Cradle describes it, the crib was designed by Green Cradle and handcrafted in the USA from solid hardwood by American woodworkers. It is made from 100% solid hardwood, with no engineered wood, plywood, veneers, MDF or particleboard. Even the mattress support consists of unfinished solid-wood slats rather than a conventional metal spring support. We were equally impressed by the finish. Instead of a conventional stain, polyurethane or petrochemical finish, our crib was finished with natural linseed oil derived from flaxseed. Those choices were important to us because this was furniture in which our grandchildren would spend an enormous amount of time during their earliest years. We were so particular about creating this type of sleep environment that we also purchased a Naturepedic Ultra Breathable 2-Stage Organic Crib Mattress separately to use with the Green Cradle crib. It was a very premium mattress, but we felt it complemented what we were trying to accomplish with the crib. It combined organic materials with a removable, washable breathable surface, waterproof protection and two firmness levels—an extra-firm infant side and a toddler side—while avoiding many of the conventional materials we were specifically trying to minimize. Our son is sensitive to chemicals due to prior mold exposure and this is the only furniture brand that has worked for us!! It's so well built and beautiful. Highly recommend.
