This is the best gel ever for my hair, with no harsh ingredients to worry about. I have a stash of products that I hardly ever touch now. You don't need to use much at all because it glides smoothly through the hair. I love this base gel. It definitely can be used without a leave in conditioner. It makes my hair soft underneath my other heavy hold gels and is a perfect match with your topper gel. The definition is on point and the style holds all week long. I like it better than that other base gel (other brand) we were all using before. 🙂
