This is my 3rd purchase and as much as I like the frames and want to support brands with African roots, this will be my last purchase. 1st order came from Brooklyn and was on time. 2nd order was placed the same day as the 1st, but was delayed. No communication on why my order was delayed. I had to send an email to inquire and that’s when I was told the postal strike in Canada was the reason for the delay. 3rd order was disappointing to say the least. I had to send an email to inquire on the status. It was delivered to me before my travel plans. I later decided to add my Rx and that’s when things got off track. I sent the frames to the address provided and somehow the doctor shipped my order somewhere else. A new pair had to be made and shipped to me. I’m from West Africa and will go above and beyond to support brands from the continent, but you have to improve on proactive communication and logistical flow.
These glasses are top tier, up there with the well known luxury brands you see in most eye glass stores.
Even cooler than the pictures! Great quality and color, great fit. Can’t wait to get my prescription put in these!
Dr. Henry notified my that the Exstel Blanc was out of stock. They sent Exstel Crystal as an alternative. Additionally to show their appreciation Dr. Henry offered a complimentary pair of Exstel Blanc once they are back in stock. As of now I am waiting for them to be re-stocked.
I've been a Bohten customer for a few years, appreciating their black-owned, ethical eyewear business. While I enjoy their frames and designs, ordering has never been smooth. My recent experience ordering 2 pairs of glasses exemplifies this: 1. Poor communication: Delayed acknowledgment of my international delivery instructions. I chased several times before receiving a response. 2. Long production times: Glasses took 2 months+ to be ready. 3. Customs problems: My shipping instructions to simply be notified before shipment weren't followed, causing delays at customs. 4. Unfulfilled promises: The long production time led to my being promised a complimentary pair which was never received. Despite my fondness for Bohten's products and values, their persistent customer service and communication issues are frustrating. If these problems continue, I may reluctantly switch to another brand with similar ethics but better service.
Service is awful especially when you need Rx lenses in a wooden framed sunglasses. I mailed my item via USPS and no one claimed the item and then that Dr. Henry (optometrist) had the nerve to ask me (via email) to send it again. I would have to pay twice to send it to the company and he refused to take responsibility for his error. I am unhappy with this company. My advise to the CEO - Do not sell beautiful wooden framed glasses if you are not able to replace the lenses with Rx lenses. Or at least let your customers know that it is impossible to replace the lenses. ~Debs
I bought my sunglasses with free shipping, also thinking that I was dealing with a company right here in Toronto (as that's where your emails are all from). However, then I started getting emails saying that duty costs of $35 are due and my glasses will not be delivered if I don't pay this cost. That's 1/3 of the cost of the glasses! Why are the duty costs being passed on to me? I have not paid the duty, so my glasses are being held by the courier.

Glasses were ordered in November and after months of emails asking how I liked a product (that hadn’t arrived), I’d respond and then hear back with excuse after excuse. I began to think I’d ordered from a scam company. Very disappointed.
There are some quirks to work out in the ordering and shipping process, but overall I am extremely satisfied working with Bôhten and wearing their products.
Longer turnaround time from purchase to receipt of item (1.5 months) but customer service was detailed and responsive.
