Button battery is a very tight fit , it’s really hard to pull out

I’m loving my new DAC3 HGC! I’ve only been using it for a few days, but I really like what I’m hearing: tremendous clarity, excellent transient response, ease in distinguishing the various instruments in the soundstage, and better-defined bass with better slam than with the DAC it’s replacing. And the DAC it’s replacing is a good one and much more expensive than the Benchmark. It’s impossible to know what the original source recording really sounds like, but it does seem reasonable to conclude that the DAC3 is very faithful to the source. That’s what I want in a component: no editorializing, no euphoric softening, no attempting to make the music sound better than real. So far I agree with John Atkinson’s conclusion at Stereophile: Wow! And yes, as with all three of the Benchmark products I’ve purchased, the purchasing process online is easy, and shipping is free and fast. It’s also great to be able to buy products made in the U. S. A. !

I was already using Canare Star-Quad Speaker Cable with high-quality locking banana connectors in one of my systems. I decided to get the new cables for both of my Benchmark systems primarily for the security and convenience of the SpeakOn connectors for my AHB2 amplifiers. I now can move my source equipment around without worrying about an inadvertent loosening of the speaker cables. I cannot claim to hear any audio improvements, but I couldn't pass up the free cable offer from Benchmark, when buying 2 components. A great thing about the Canare Star-Quad Speaker Cable is that it lays flat and stays where you put it, without trying to coil, unlike the quality 12 gauge speaker cables I previously used.

This is not my first Benchmark product and it is UBER-HIGH-VALUE stuff.

Benchmark DAC3B DAC — A Seriously Impressive Digital Front End I’ve spent a lot of time listening to digital sources and DACs over the years, and the Benchmark DAC3B really impressed me from the very first listen. What immediately stands out is its exceptional clarity, neutrality, and control. The DAC3B has a wonderfully transparent character that allows the recording itself to take centre stage. There’s no artificial sweetness or exaggerated hi-fi character — just an incredibly clean, precise and natural presentation that lets you hear deeply into the music. The level of detail is outstanding, but what I particularly appreciate is that the DAC3B never sounds analytical or fatiguing. It has a very effortless quality, with excellent transient response, superb dynamics and an extremely convincing sense of timing. Voices and instruments have fantastic focus, while the soundstage remains open and well defined. From a professional audio perspective, I also really value the Benchmark’s engineering philosophy. It feels like a product designed by people who genuinely understand what a DAC should do: get out of the way and reproduce the source as faithfully as possible. The DAC3B is exceptionally well thought out, beautifully built and completely confidence-inspiring. For anyone looking for a high-performance DAC that prioritises accuracy, transparency and musical realism, I would have no hesitation recommending the Benchmark DAC3B. It is one of those pieces of equipment that makes you stop thinking about the equipment and simply listen to the music — which, ultimately, is exactly what a great DAC should do. Highly recommended. The cables are great. Delivery was fast. The only 'miss' was that I ordered two RCA to XLRM adapter cables to use between my preamp and amp and I had asked Benchmark to mark the connectors on one cable with a red collar or heat shrink so I can tell which is right vs left. The cables arrived without any markings or even a note saying that option wasn't available. It's a feature worth adding and something they offer on all of their other stereo cables. Other than that, very happy with the cables!

I am a 5-year customer of Benchmark. Their products are top quality at a value price for the level of electronic excellence. I have rarely had any questions, but customer service (Rory) has always been there to offer helpful explanations and advice. I have had zero problems with any of my Benchmark components or cables.
