I haven't even finished reading the book and have already purchased 2 more because initially this was supposed to be a gift for someone else. However, i find myself unwillimg to let go of it. I am 50 years old, but last night I both read life affirming words and cried for the 5 year old black girl confused, traumatized and sexually abused by someone trusted to care for her, for the 17 year old girl with PTSD from all of the memories the 5 year old suppressed, and for the 23 year old who after finally feeling like life was coming together lost her mother tragically to homicide. The letter from Aja Ellington could have been written to me. It felt like she had read a narrative of my life and then sat down to encourage me personally. There is nothing like truly being seen. I don't know that I have ever felt more "seen"... ever. God gives us the peace that passes all understanding, but often times life happens and triggers can cause us to revisit moments in our past. For me, the trigger was a breast cancer diagnosis during a global pandemic. This book is right on time. I have some unpacking to do !
