Exquisite is the word that springs to mind, when looking at Ping He’s watercolours. A few years ago I had the pleasure of admiring a range of her delicately-painted cards. It was like opening a door onto a garden filled with fragrance and clear colours. At the time, I only needed a couple of cards to send for friends’ birthdays: I ended up buying 30, and have since bought many more. I send them all over the world, for birthdays and festivals, as thank-you messages and just because they are so beautiful, and I want to share the beauty. I’ve given them to young and old, and my friends and family are always astonished by them: “What an amazingly lovely painting,” they say. This is partly because of the professional reproduction, implemented by Ping’s husband, John. He ensures that the colours of the printed flowers are absolutely accurate — so that you can almost smell their sweet freshness. Ping paints not only delicate sprigs of single flowers, but also bunches and arrangements. Each card is a delight. I am soon off to buy another batch...
